Mold Making + Casting Experiments

Eye Candy
ceramic, cotton rope, pine wood, wax
18’’ x 18’’ x 120’’
The way we see and interpret life affects how we experience and navigate it. Some things are sweet (like lollipops), some salty (like tear drops). Some paths are direct, some indirect. Some things are in our control (like one’s intent), some are not (like the weather).

[not pictured: wax lollipops and tear drops in the eyes]

Relief Tiles
Reimagining forms in Hilma Af Klint’s Group IV, The
Ten Largest, No. 7 painting with dimensionality. I sculpted the negative in clay to cast the positive in plaster. I then used the plaster positive to make another plaster negative to be used to cast more positives of the tile.

Two-Part Mold
A playful practice creating a two-part mold that allows for a more complex shape with undercuts and casting it in wax. The detail captured impressed me! The small print on the back of the controller picked up well.
Press Molds
An exploration of texture and colored plaster with found objects.

Slip Casting
Recreating and spinning off.
